What 6M followers taught me

Yesterday, I had the honor of sitting down with John Lee for one of the most insightful conversations I’ve ever had about business and investing. 🤯 

If you don’t already know John—he’s a self-made millionaire by 27, with over 2 million followers just on Instagram alone (total 6M followers from various platforms combined), and has shared stages with legends like Richard Branson, Bill Clinton, Jack Welch, and Randi Zuckerberg.

But what struck me the most wasn’t just his achievements—it was his relentless desire to grow, not just as a business owner, but as a person.

Here are 3 powerful lessons I took away from our chat (and how they apply to investing too). I’ll be releasing the full podcast episode soon on my YouTube channel, but here’s a little preview:

1. Systemise, systemise, systemise

John is obsessed with systemising everything—his workflows, productivity, and business processes—so he can focus on the activities that truly move the needle. Systems remove human error and keep things running, even when he’s not around.

💡 Investing parallel:
We can do the same by systemising our investing process to minimize human errors and emotions. For me, that means using RSPs (Regular Saving Plans) to automatically buy into my chosen ETFs every month—without trying to time the market.

I’ve been doing this for about 1.5 years since I started using Webull , and two of my ETFs are now up 28–53%, growing close to $50,000 USD. That’s the power of systemisation in investing.

2. Never stop growing

John has an insatiable curiosity for learning. Yesterday, he shocked me when he pulled out his phone and had his AI agent dissect my business on the spot. That’s how deeply he integrates AI into his daily life and businesses.

He was also one of the early pioneers in social media—amassing millions of followers by being quick to adapt. Tools will keep evolving—first social media, now AI, and something else in the future—but it’s his hunger to learn that keeps him ahead.

How can we be less lazy, more curious, and more open-minded to new tools? That trait alone could change our trajectory.

3. The 30/30/30/10 Rule

John divides his portfolio like this:

• 30% into real estate

• 30% into his own business

• 30% into other businesses with proven models

• 10% into moonshots (high risk, high reward)

This structure balances stability, scalability, and opportunity—with just enough risk to keep things exciting.

💡 Investing parallel:
If 90% of your portfolio is in hype stocks, one crash could wipe out years of growth. But if you build a stable foundation with ETFs, your core will stay intact no matter the market swings. That peace of mind is priceless, and it gives you the resilience to bounce back stronger after downturns.
