Recently, I was invited onto The One Good Chat Podcast to share my journey as an investor.

I thought we were going to talk about investing.

ETFs. Options. Financial freedom. How I built my portfolio.

But little did I know…

This conversation would actually make me cry.

As Joey started asking me about my journey, I found myself going all the way back to where everything began.

Growing up watching my grandmother save every dollar she could.

Seeing my father get retrenched — and realising how quickly financial security could disappear.

Losing $50,000 after trusting someone else to manage my money.

Starting over and finally deciding:

I need to take control of my own financial future.

And eventually, building my investment portfolio to seven figures and reaching my first $1 million at 33.

Looking back at everything during this conversation made me realise how much each setback, mistake and lesson shaped the investor — and person — I am today.

And perhaps that’s why this conversation became so emotional for me.

For more than an hour, I wasn't just talking about investing.

I was looking back at the different versions of myself that brought me here.

We talked about:

Why I stopped relying on individual stock picking and moved towards ETFs.
How I use options to generate additional income.
The biggest investing mistakes beginners make.
What my grandmother taught me about money.
