It finally happened.

After weeks of anticipation, the Federal Reserve just raised interest rates for the first time since 2023, increasing its benchmark rate by 0.25%.

And the market reacted almost immediately.

The Dow fell more than 1%, while the broader market turned lower after the announcement.

For the past month, one reason the market has felt so sideways and indecisive is because investors have been waiting to see what the Fed would do next.

Now we finally have the answer.

But I personally think this could also mean more volatility ahead.

Higher interest rates are meant to cool spending and bring inflation under control.

But at the same time, borrowing becomes more expensive for consumers and businesses — which can put additional pressure on economic growth.

And as investors digest all of this, I wouldn't be surprised to see more fear, uncertainty and sudden market movements in the coming weeks.

But remember something I always say:

Volatility doesn't only create fear.

It creates opportunities.

When markets become volatile, even fundamentally strong ETFs and companies can get dragged down simply because everyone is selling.
