Be Greedy

Dear investor,

Greed often gets a bad reputation, but what if it could be a positive force in your life? When it comes to investing, a healthy dose of greed can be the driving force that helps you build a better future for yourself and your family.

Greed, in this sense, isn’t about being selfish—it’s about recognizing opportunities and going after them with determination. It’s the push you need to take on challenges, learn more, and take calculated risks. As Charlie Munger wisely said, “My success in serving greed partly allowed me to make easier the process of being honorable and sensible.”

Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett

Financial freedom often requires making practical decisions. You might need to step out of your comfort zone, explore new investment strategies, or take on opportunities that others might overlook. This isn’t about chasing quick wins; it’s about building a strong foundation that allows you to make choices aligned with your long-term goals.

Remember Ben Franklin’s words, “It’s hard for an empty sack to stand upright.” Without financial stability, it’s tough to maintain integrity and make sound decisions. Greed, when harnessed correctly, is what fills that sack. It’s what drives you to invest wisely and secure your future.

However, greed alone isn’t enough. To truly succeed, we must balance it with humility—the willingness to empty our cups, keep learning, adapting, and improving, just as Charlie Munger has done throughout his career. This attitude of humility—recognizing that there’s always more to learn—has been key to his and Warren Buffett’s enduring success.

In investing, this balance is crucial. Greed pushes you forward, but humility keeps you grounded. It’s what keeps you open to new strategies, fresh ideas, and the wisdom of those who have walked the path before you. By maintaining an attitude of constant learning, you can avoid the traps that come with overconfidence and stay on the path to long-term success.

So, let greed fuel your ambition, but never stop emptying your cup. Keep learning, keep improving, and let that combination guide you to build wealth that stands the test of time.
