Fireworks, crowds... and a $100 chair?!

Yesterday was Singapore’s big SG60 celebration, and I decided to bring my mum to Marina Bay Sands to watch the fireworks.

Honestly… I think it was my first time seeing that many people in MBS.
According to the news — over 200,000 people were there. 😳

As we queued to get outside to the riverbank, the crowd got so intense that both Mum and I had the same thought —
“What if… we skip the squeeze and find a nice restaurant to watch from instead?”

We spotted one right by the water, but the staff quoted us $100 per person just to get in.
Ridiculous, we thought, and kept walking.

A few steps later — jackpot.
Another restaurant, equally beautiful outdoor seating, but only half the price. We went straight in.

That night, we enjoyed the fireworks from our own comfortable table, eating delicious Italian food, laughing, chatting, and just being present.

And in that moment, I realised how much my money mindset has changed over the years.

Many years ago, I would never spend on something like this. I’d rather endure the heat and the squeeze just to avoid spending — after all, the fireworks are free, right?

But as I’ve grown, I’ve also learned that if we have the means, it’s okay — even important — to pamper ourselves and our loved ones once in a while.
A little money can turn a stressful night into a truly memorable experience.

At the same time, pampering doesn’t mean splurging mindlessly.
That’s why I walked past the $200 restaurant and went for the second option.
It’s about value for money and spending with intention.

I don’t do this every day — maybe once a week with friends or family — because I also make sure to save and invest every single month.
Why? Because every dollar I put in… I know I can grow it into many more — especially with the passive income I get from my options strategy.
