When it comes to investing, the No.1 advice many people give is:

“Just buy the S&P 500 and hold.”

And to be fair — that’s solid advice.
Historically, the S&P 500 has delivered around 10% per year.

But let’s pause for a moment and run the numbers.

If you start with $50,000 and compound it at 10% annually,
after 20 years… your portfolio becomes roughly $336,000.

That’s meaningful growth.

But if your goal is $1 million —
it’s still quite far away.

So the real question isn’t whether the S&P 500 works.

The real question is:

Is it enough for your goals?

Because beyond broad index investing, there are:

it becomes close to $1.9 million.

Same starting capital.
Very different outcome.
